STUDY RIGHT & FACE THE BOARD EXAM WITH A SMILE

As the Board Exam pressure mounts close, it is but natural for you to be a bit tense and confounded. Let me tell you one thing there is nothing abnormal about exam phobia, it happens even with students who are very well prepared.
I am certain that each one of you can cope up with this pressure and come out victorious. Here are some simple tips that will greatly help you in overcoming exam phobia and prepare you for the upcoming Boards.

Thoroughly read every page of the NCERT Textbook.
Give utmost importance to your NCERT textbooks and do not leave out even a single page. Read every line thoroughly. Try to solve all exercises given in the NCERT books. After clearing your concepts, you can then refer to refreshers.

Highlight & Make Notes of Important points.
While preparing for the exams, make sure you make notes for each chapter you finish studying. Make personal notes and highlight all the important points in a way that you can refer to them during your revision later. You can refer to these notes to refresh your knowledge a day before the exam. It is more convenient to revise from the notes rather than studying the whole textbook again.

Syllabus to be divided as per target set.
Set your Time-table as per daily/weekly target. You need to divide the entire syllabus into various sections. In this way, it will be easy for you to complete the whole syllabus and complete your revision as well. Do not try to study all the subject’s every day. A maximum of  three subjects in a day is good but you need to study at least two chapters of each subject thoroughly for the day and make your personal notes.

Important Topics to be given Extra time.
While making your timetable, first identify the topics which are really important and carry maximum weightage. Make a list of such topics for each subject and devote extra time to those topics. Everyday start your examination preparation with some important topics. When you have finished the preparation of 4 or 5 such topics, Test yourself from the sample papers covering the questions related to these topics.

Late Night Study should be completely AVOIDED.
Studying late in the night is exhausting. You will end up feeling drowsy and will not be able to concentrate on what you are studying as your brain is already fatigued. So if you want to keep yourself fresh the next morning , try to avoid late night studying. You should go to bed latest by 10.30 pm. Avoid drinking tea or coffee before going to bed.  Make it a habit to wake up early morning to study, that is the time your mind is completely fresh and your brain is like a sponge and can absorb everything very easily.

Solve Previous Years Question Papers
Previous years papers & CBSE sample papers are very important while preparing for the Board Exam  because many a times there are questions which are repeated from the previous year papers. This will give you a fair idea of the type of questions expected. Try to solve at least 5 previous year's question papers of each subject. This will help you in assessing your current levels of preparation and identifying your strength & weakness in each area.

Proper Time should be set aside for Solving Papers.
While solving the question papers and sample papers, create an environment as close to the one you expect at the examination center. Try to solve the papers within a fixed time period so that you have enough practice of time management. Set your alarm according to the board exam schedule and solve the papers in the same time span in which the actual exams are held. It will increase your writing speed and make you more systematic and confident in answering the questions. After solving the paper, mark yourself as per the examination marking scheme.

 Evaluate yourself every week
At the end of every week, evaluate yourself by giving yourself a Test. Have your papers corrected either by tutors or teachers, or mark it yourself. Evaluation will show you how much you have improved over the week. If you have done well in the weekly evaluation examination, reward yourself by watching a movie or spending time with your family & friends. If you are very confident about your preparation, you can even take half a day off and enjoy. Taking a break will remove all the tension and relax your brain.

Numerical Problems Must be Practiced
While solving the numerical problems in Mathematics and Physics, don't do it verbally. Always keep a rough register with you while studying subjects like Mathematics and Physics. Practice all the numerical problems in your register. Never try to learn and mug up theorems. Understand the concepts clearly so that you can solve them easily.

Eat Healthy Food
A good diet is extremely important for a fit mind and body. Unhealthy food habits can lead to stomach upsets and other problems that will weaken the body as well as the brain. You, therefore, need to follow a healthy diet so that you find yourself energetic enough during the preparation break. Drink a lot of fresh juices and avoid too much of tea and coffee. Eating healthy food and avoiding fried and junk food are a must. Do not skip your meals and try to avoid very heavy meals. Eat frequent small meals.

Exercise twice daily
Make it a point to exercise for at least 15 minutes twice a day. It can be in the form of  Yoga, Aerobics, Cycling, Walking, Jogging , Skipping or even Dancing .

Take Regular Breaks
After every two hours of study take a break for half an hour , so that you are refreshed once again once you sit to study.

In the Examination Hall
Read the Question Paper in the first 5 minutes before you begin to attempt the Board paper, spend the first 5 minutes in going through the question paper .This will help you  determine which questions you would like to answer first. Read the question paper thoroughly and select the questions which you want to attempt first .It is advisable to start with the easy questions first and then attempt the harder questions. Make sure you mark the answers properly.

Don't spend too much time on a single question
Do not spend too much time on answering a single question , plan your time effectively so that you set aside time for the entire paper. It is best to leave the questions which are tricky for later. You can always come back to that question later when you have time left after answering all the remaining questions. In this way you can make the best use of your time.

Pay attention to the marks allotted to Questions
Before answering any question, look at the marks allotted to that question. Spend more time on answering questions which are higher in weightage.

Keep your answers relevant and to the point.
Make sure your answers are brief and to the point. Do not deviate from the topic and add any irrelevant information. This will not fetch you any extra marks.

Present Your Paper Neatly
The way you present your paper is also very important in the exams. So, write down your answers legibly in neat handwriting. Underline the important points with a pencil or black pen. Make neat diagrams wherever necessary and label very neatly. Always use a scale for underlining important points.

Keep 10 minutes aside to revise your paper before submitting.
Time management is very important for any examination. Try to solve the paper in such a manner that you have at least 10 minutes at the end to do a quick revision.. Careless mistakes often result in deduction of marks and this can be avoided by going through the answer sheet one last time before submission .
