REPLACING NEGATIVE ATTITUDES WITH POSITIVE ONES

23 years of working as the Director of Little Angels High School has led me down interesting pathways which have cumulated into many fascinating experiences. Part of that fascination comes from watching people make choices. Those choices have always fallen into two simple categories:

1-    POSITIVE
2-    NEGATIVE

In most cases, we usually choose negative choices over positive ones. Do we ever ask ourselves Why....? Well it’s generally got to do with a combination of things that starts with a person's upbringing,   personal frustrations or bad experiences at previous work environment or could just be because of the Negative nature of a person who refuses to see anything with a positive eye.

In order to Overcome this NEGATIVE habit within us we need to.......
  1. STOP listening to that little negative voice inside us. Counter-punch the negative self talk with a substantial dose of positiveness.
  2. LOOK for alternative explanations. In many cases there could be hundreds of them, unfortunately when you are frustrated you are unable to see the forest for the trees - sometimes referred to as Frustration Tunnel Vision.
  3. MOODS are contagious, both positive and negative. Do something that will place you in a positive mood, such as a daily delicious habit or speaking with anyone that is known for having a positive attitude .
  4. CONTROL your frustration. Speak slowly, breathe deeply, choose to remain calm or excuse yourself from the discussion where Negativity is breeding.
  5. STOP looking out of the rear view mirror when that big broad windshield is staring you in the face. Your vision of each event or situation is totally up to you. You can either choose to be negative or positive ...it’s your choice. You can either focus on your negative past or look forward into a positive future.
Remember this quote: "Past failures don't equal current successes."
WATCH with great care who are your close friends in the workplace . Stay away from people with Negative attitudes. Do not indulge in negative gossip in the work place.
Try and see ONLY the POSITIVE qualities in each and everyone you   ...only and only then can you learn to  appreciate and love people.

My most favorite quote is "YOU become the average sum of the five people with whom you associate with."

So always try and be around those average FIVE who are POSITIVE .....!!!!!

Keeping in mind this powerful philosophy, ask yourselves these questions:

Who am I around?
What are they doing to me?
What have they got me saying?
Where do they have me going?
What do they have me thinking?
What do they have me becoming?

Then ask yourself the BIG question: Is that okay? Is this who I really want to be ?
By asking yourself these simple questions you can indicate that you are making the first leap from making negative choices to making choices that will certainly have a positive impact on yourself, your co-workers and your students.
